CLASS Instructional Specialist
The CLASS Instructional Specialist supports implementation of the Classroom Assessment Scoring System
(CLASS®) across the OUR Local Lead catchment area by coordinating observations, supporting educator growth, and strengthening adult–child interactions through coaching, professional learning, and data use. This position works under the Local Lead Captain to ensure fidelity of CLASS implementation while building educator capacity and improving classroom quality outcomes. The role blends technical expertise, instructional coaching, data coordination, and relationship-based support.
Essential Responsibilities
1. CLASS Observation Coordination
Conduct CLASS observations in classrooms across catchment area
Ensure sites receive required advance notification
Maintain observation schedules aligned with ADE timelines
Assist in identifying classrooms and assigning appropriate CLASS tool
2. Observer Support & Reliability
Maintain records of CLASS observer certifications and reliability status
Support recalibration and reliability processes
Help implement local protocols to minimize conflicts of interest
Ensure accurate data entry into myTeachstone
3. Instructional Coaching & Professional Learning
Provide CLASS-aligned coaching and feedback to teachers and program leaders
Support educators in strengthening adult–child interactions
Facilitate trainings and professional learning communities
Assist with regional training events and coaching cohorts
4. Data Use & Continuous Improvement
Analyze CLASS data trends across programs
Collaborate with the Captain to identify regional improvement priorities
Translate data into actionable strategies for educators
Support development of targeted professional development plans
5. Provider & Partner Support
Build trusting relationships with early childhood educators and directors
Provide technical assistance aligned with HQIM and classroom quality
Collaborate with state-funded professional service vendors
Support preparation for CLASS observations
6. Administrative & Reporting Support
Ensure score sheets and observation notes are completed and uploaded accurately
Maintain organized documentation systems
Assist with required ADE reporting and tracking
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field
Experience working in early childhood classrooms or instructional coaching
Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices
Strong interpersonal and facilitation skill
Ability to travel within the region
CLASS 2nd edition Infant/Toddler & PreK Observer Certifications
Experience delivering professional development
Data analysis or quality improvement experience
